COLLIER COUNTY SPELLING BEE WINNER DECLARED
March 4, 2013

Emma Parrish, an eighth grade student at North Naples Middle School, is the 2013 Collier County Spelling Bee Champion – winning the crown during this evening’s Collier County Spelling Bee held at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Administrative Center in Naples. The winning word: precocious.  Community School of Naples sixth grader John Neumann came in a close second.

Some 46 contestants – sixth, seventh, and eighth graders from 18 Collier County middle schools – were vying for the title. They qualified for the county competition by winning spelling bees in their individual schools.

Emma now advances to the 2013 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., beginning May 28th, courtesy of event-sponsor Naples Daily News.
