VETERANS MEMORIAL ELEMENTARY
DEDICATES NEW PLAYGROUND

January 10, 2013

Veterans Memorial Elementary School (VME) is proud to announce the official opening of their brand new playground.  While the new playground is already open for play, the ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 2:15 p.m. on Friday (January 11) at the school, located at 15960 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, off of Livingston Road.

Almost since the day VME opened six years ago, the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) has been working to build a new playground for students in the second to fifth grades.  While the school opened with a playground area for students in kindergarten and first grade, children in second through fifth grades only had use of soccer fields and basketball courts for recess time.

For six years, the playground seemed like just a dream, as the economic downturn and budget cuts reduced the amount of funds available for construction.  But now in 2013, that dream has finally become a reality through collaboration among the school, the PTO, and Collier County Public Schools.  The PTO’s persistent fundraising efforts and a generous grant from the playground vendor were instrumental in bringing this new playground to the VME family.
